Master Online Poker Tournaments - Tips That Makes You Rich
If you are new to online poker, or poker itself, as with anything it is usually best to start off on the easier tournaments and then work your way up. You will often find that tournaments with lower buy-ins are likely to be easier than competing in a higher stake tournament. This is because the lower buy-in means the less skilled poker players are likely to play as well as the more adept poker players who are more likely to take risks due to the low buy-in; this creates an advantage for you as a player as long as you play patiently.
No matter what tournament you select, make sure you are comfortable with loosing the money you paid as a buy-in.
A tournament can be divided into 3 different stages.
Early stages
When you begin your one table sit and go tournament.. This means that when you are dealt a hand, you need to remember there are potentially nine better hands on the table. It is for this reason, that you should be cautious - especially when the tournament beings. Green players are more likely to bet or raise to high amounts when they don’t have the best hand. This is good for you, you can just take their chips without any problem. Remember only to play great start hands.
By playing only top hands, you reduce other hands that could beat you. In the beginning of the tournament you can see the flop cheaply because the blinds are low. You can loosen up your game if you have a good position at the table. If you don’t hit, or have any draws on the flop then be careful and be ready to fold. Be patient, you will get a monster sooner or later.
Try and keep to this style of play for the first few sets of blinds and you should survive the beginning of the tournament.
Middle stages
As blinds continue to increase, it becomes more expensive to play hands, you will need to tighten up your game. Your opponent will also slow down; except for those maniacs that don’t know the strategy. This can be an brilliant chance to steal the blinds. Now it is important that you have good reads on your opponents. If you have a relatively huge pot in terms of the other people, you can terrorize the table in order to increase your chip stack by stealing the blinds.
Late Stages
Here is where it gets serious, either you are in the money or just outside. Your chips stack decides how you have to play, if you are high stacked, then you can afford to continue playing tight to move yourself onto the bigger prizes, but if you are low stacked then the blinds are going to eat your chips stack. You have to play aggressively and push when you get a decent hand. Try to remember your opponent’s style, it is important when you should steal blinds or defend your own blinds. Use your information of your opponents to your benefit and try to remain patient, even though there is money on the line.
Good Luck with your online poker tournament career.
I have played poker for a couple of years, mostly for coffee money. After I started play with a poker calculator called “Tournament Indicator” I went from a mediocre poker player to a constant winning poker player. Tournament Indicator gave me advice when to fold, call or raise. This made me a frequent ITM-player. I highly recommend this software, its an easy way to fortune.
