4 Common Bad Breath Symptoms
Well, this might sound a little crazy, but did you know that there are loads of people out there suffering from bad breath who are blissfully unaware of the stench coming from their mouths?!
Honestly, it’s true. Our bodies naturally become accustomed to our own individual smells and this can make it very difficult to suss out when something’s not quite as it should be.
Of course, there might be some tell-tale signs which can make you suspect you have bad breath, such as work colleagues backing off when you try to talk to them. Or perhaps sudden and frequent offerings of chewing gum and mints from friends?!
But seriously, how can you tell if you really do have a bad case of halitosis? I mean, it’s not like you want to go drawing any more attention to it by asking people, or dealing with the awkwardness and affront when they say ‘ yes’!
Instead, a little bit of self-diagnosis might be a better - and less embarrassing! - option. There are several common symptoms of bad breath, and if you have any or all of them, then it might well be the case that your breath is perhaps not at its freshest!
4 of the most common bad breath symptoms include:
1. a white or yellow coating on your tongue;
2. a metallic, bitter or sour taste in your mouth;
3. an unusually dry mouth; and
4. a change in the way some foods taste.
You could also try taking this simple ‘lick and sniff’ test to determine whether or not you have bad breath.
Lick the inside of your wrist, wait about 5-10 seconds then smell. If it smells pretty rank, chances are your breath does too.
Some people also speak about a test which involves cupping your hands together and then blowing into them and smelling. However, this isn’t always a good indicator of bad breath for the reason mentioned earlier - that you become used to your own smell.
If it looks like you have indeed got a spot of halitosis going on there, all is most certainly not lost. It is wholly possible for you to eliminate bad breath for good.
Some dental experts believe that they very best way to do this is to firstly pinpoint exactly what’s causing your own halitosis, then you’ll be better placed to find the most effective course of treatment.
Marnie Wallace has spent many years researching the different causes of bad breath. She’s recently come across an eye-opening report which turns many common misconceptions about bad breath on their head, as well as a simple step-by-step action plan which has been proven to eliminate halitosis permanently
